CYPRUS RANKED 18TH BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD

Cyprus has been declared the 18th ‘best’ country in the world, according to ‘The Good Country Index’. Compiled independently, the index essentially ranks countries of the world, measuring how far each contributes to the “greater good” of the world. “Using a wide range of data from the U.N. and other international organisations, we’ve given each country a balance-sheet to show at a glance whether it’s a net creditor to mankind, a burden on the planet, or something in between,” says Simon Anholt, Independent Policy Advisor to the Index.

Considering factors such as the size of a country’s economy, its global contributions to science and technology, culture, international peace and security, world order, the planet and climate, prosperity and equality, and the health and well-being of humanity, Cyprus was evaluated 18th of the 125 countries assessed. For the field of Science and Technology, the result was even more impressive for Cyprus, which was ranked third in the world. This appraisal took into consideration the number of foreign students studying in the country, the export of academic journals and documents, the number of articles published in international journals, the number of Nobel Prize winners and the number of International Patent Cooperation Treaty applications, all relative to the country’s GDP.
